The majority of planned engineering work will take place overnight or at the weekend, but you can check our Upcoming engineering work section below to find out if you might be impacted by upcoming engineering work on our routes. The calendar shows planned engineering work impacting TransPennine Express services over the next 12 weeks.
If your journey is affected by engineering works, the calendar will show you any changes to train times, or if your service has been replaced by a rail replacement bus service.
We advise customers to always check their travel details before travelling to ensure the most up to date journey information has been received.

Between Manchester and Leeds Weekends 11 and 26 April 2026
Changes to services – weekends between Saturday 11 and Sunday 26 April
No services will be able to run via Huddersfield.
Services that would normally run between Manchester and Leeds will be affected by Transpennine Route Upgrade improvement works. Services may be diverted and will be running to an amended timetable. Rail replacement buses will also be in place. Customers are advised to check before they travel.
Services between Manchester and Leeds will divert via The Calder Valley between Manchester and Dewsbury.
- Liverpool – Newcastle services will call additionally at Lea Green and Brighouse
- Hull – Liverpool lime Street services will operate Hull <> Leeds only

Major upgrades between Manchester, Huddersfield and Leeds during May and June. Saturday 2 May to Monday 25 May.
We’re upgrading the Transpennine Route (TRU) to deliver a faster, more reliable, and more sustainable railway across the North. This multi‑billion‑pound investment is modernising the railway so trains can run more smoothly, more reliably, and with lower carbon emissions. While some disruption is needed now, these improvements will mean better journeys for decades to come.
During this work we’re upgrading stations, improving drainage, upgrading bridges, viaducts and signalling.

Here’s what we’re doing
• Renewing sections of track and improving drainage between Deighton and Mirfield to help deliver faster journeys and reduce flooding on the railway
• Replacing part of the railway bridge at Whitacre Street, near Deighton station to keep both t rains and road traffic running safely and reliably for years to come
• Continuing work on the new Deighton station, which will allow longer trains to call and provide better accessibility and modern facilities for customers
• Extending the canopies at Huddersfield station and installing scaffolding so essential roof repairs and improvements can be carried out safely
• Strengthening Huddersfield viaduct to make space for additional tracks and overhead power lines, allowing more trains to run and supporting greener, electric journeys across the Pennines
• Upgrading and testing signalling equipment to support faster, more frequent and more reliable services in the future

What works are happening?
Renewing sections of track and improving drainage to make services more reliable and reduce delays caused by flooding.
Batley station:
We’ve extended the platforms so longer trains can call, resurfaced and realigned the platform edges for smoother boarding, completed work to decomisission the subway, and brought the new lifts into service to improve accessibility.
Dewsbury station:
Platforms have been extended to allow longer trains to stop there, resurfaced for a better waiting environment, and adjusted to improve boarding. We’ve also extended the canopies to provide more shelter, strengthened the subway, and reinforced the footbridge to keep everyone moving safely.
Jack Lane bridge in Batley:
We’re rebuilding the bridge to keep both trains and road users moving safely and reliably for years to come.
Overhead line improvements:
We’re upgrading the overhead power equipment to support more reliable and greener electric trains in the future.
Renewing the track in the Garforth area:
For smoother more reliable journeys
Ridge Road Bridge Demolished:
The existing A656 Ridge Road overbridge is being demolished as part of our nine-month project to reconstruct this bridge to enable it to accommodate the overhead line equipment needed to power faster, cleaner, quieter electric trains.

Travelling between Manchester stations
TransPennine Express operates a regular service which connects Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Victoria in both directions but this may not always be available due to service disruption or planned engineering work which is essential to maintaining the railway.
Please allow plenty of time to travel and make connections onto train services at other stations.
If a direct train service isn’t available, there are other options you can choose to travel between the major stations in Manchester city centre:

A separate ticket for Metrolink trams is required unless your ticket destination reads “Manchester CTLZ” or your train journey is wholly within Greater Manchester and requires connections between Manchester Stations, including between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria (this does not include advance tickets).
